{"id":10349,"date":"2018-06-19T16:06:48","date_gmt":"2018-06-19T14:06:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.efnweb.be\/?p=10349"},"modified":"2018-06-19T16:06:48","modified_gmt":"2018-06-19T14:06:48","slug":"digitalisation-needs-to-support-the-frontline-nursing-workforce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/efn.eu\/?p=10349","title":{"rendered":"Digitalisation needs to support the frontline nursing workforce"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The role that new technologies will play in shaping the future is well-known to the European Commission that has decided to launch a first ever <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/publications\/connecting-europe-facility-digital-europe-and-space-programmes_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Digital Europe programme<\/a> and invest \u20ac9.2 billion to align the next long-term EU budget 2021-2027 with increasing digital challenges.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As emphasised by Mariya Gabriel, Commissioner for the Digital Economy and Society, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.efnweb.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/EFN-Policy-Statement-on-eHealth-EN-final102009.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">impact of digitalisation on healthcare<\/a> is huge. However, to ensure a smooth transition, it is crucial that digital tools place citizens at the core of the health and social care delivery process. In this context, in their coaching roles, nurses play a fundamental role in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.efnweb.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/EFN-Position-Paper-Patient-Empowerment-Final-14-10-2013.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">empowering patients and increasing citizens\u2019 trust<\/a> towards eHealth solutions, thanks to the close relation they establish with the patients and their families.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nurses can make a significant contribution to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.efnweb.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/EFN-Policy-Statement-on-Value-Based-Health-and-Social-Ecosystem1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">boost value-based ecosystems<\/a>, supported by technology, and being part of a culture that empowers patients to evaluate qualitative health outcomes.
