Public finances are more strained than ever before, social cohesion has been seriously disrupted, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.efnweb.be\/?p=10209\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nurses working conditions are worsening<\/a> in many EU countries. Therefore, this is the time for policymakers and EU stakeholders to re-define a new path towards a new European welfare system, taking into account the nurses\u2019 voice. <a href=\"https:\/\/home.kpmg\/xx\/en\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KMPG<\/a> organised an <a href=\"https:\/\/home.kpmg\/it\/it\/home\/events\/2019\/06\/the-path-towards-a-european-welfare.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">event<\/a> in which high-level speakers from the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Commission<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldbank.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World Bank<\/a> expressed the need to reinforcing the social dimension through education, skills and innovation, and how new digital technologies can create more inclusive and participative socio-economic systems. The <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/priorities\/deeper-and-fairer-economic-and-monetary-union\/european-pillar-social-rights_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Pillar of Social Rights<\/a>, setting out a series of <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/priorities\/deeper-and-fairer-economic-and-monetary-union\/european-pillar-social-rights\/european-pillar-social-rights-20-principles_en\">20 principles<\/a>, of which access to healthcare, right to quality and inclusive education, fair wages and right to affordable long-term care services of good quality, are of <a href=\"http:\/\/edition.pagesuite-professional.co.uk\/html5\/reader\/production\/default.aspx?pubname=&amp;edid=c87a648a-a957-47e9-ad00-77139ed62ae1&amp;pnum=12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">utmost importance for the nursing community<\/a>, was also discussed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Crosscutting the social pillar, the EFN is a strong supporter with the digitalization of healthcare, and hence is involved in two ongoing Horizon 2020-funded projects on Electronic Health Records in the EU (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.efnweb.be\/?page_id=10684\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">InteropEHRate<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.efnweb.be\/?page_id=10687\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Smart4Health<\/a>).
