{"id":12321,"date":"2020-03-27T12:07:15","date_gmt":"2020-03-27T11:07:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.efnweb.be\/?p=12321"},"modified":"2020-03-27T12:07:15","modified_gmt":"2020-03-27T11:07:15","slug":"healthcare-professionals-urge-authorities-to-guarantee-protection-to-those-in-front-lines-against-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/efn.eu\/?p=12321","title":{"rendered":"Healthcare professionals urge authorities to guarantee protection to those in front lines against Covid-19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The European health professionals and their students\u2019 organisations are <a href=\"https:\/\/efn.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Joint-Statement-European-organisations-of-health-professionals-COVID-19.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">calling on<\/a> the European Commission and the governments to support and protect healthcare professionals fighting Covid-19. Staff must be provided with <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/growth\/sectors\/mechanical-engineering\/personal-protective-equipment_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Personal Protective Equipment<\/a> (PPE) and\u00a0must be\u00a0regularly tested, regardless of reported symptoms or exposure.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As Europe has become the global center of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.euro.who.int\/en\/health-topics\/health-emergencies\/coronavirus-covid-19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">COVID-19 pandemic<\/a>, healthcare professionals are working hard to contain the spread of the virus, putting themselves at risk to protect the communities. Despite the unprecedented efforts to stop the pandemic, healthcare professionals are at the front line without adequate PPE. The number of infections and deaths of the healthcare staff is increasing every day.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Even in times of crisis, adequate working conditions must be ensured. Staff must have breaks and time off between shifts, to be able to carry on in what could be a long-term global crisis. The working time Directive should apply.
