Vaccination continues to be the safest and effective public health measure that there is.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">Despite the demonstrated benefits of many kinds of vaccination, it remains a controversial issue largely due to misinformation, restricted access, health illiteracy and cost. Alarmingly, the findings of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/health\/sites\/health\/files\/vaccination\/docs\/20190426_special-eurobarometer-sp488_en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #4a6ee0;\">EU statistical Report<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<em><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;\">\u2018Europeans\u2019 attitudes towards vaccination\u2019<\/span><\/em>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/health\/sites\/health\/files\/vaccination\/docs\/2018_vaccine_confidence_en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #4a6ee0;\">EU Report<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<em><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;\">\u2018State of vaccine confidence in the EU 2018\u2019<\/span><\/em>, show that Europe is the region with the lowest confidence in vaccination in the world and that a very significant number of Europeans do not have the correct information on vaccination.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">The major challenge for national immunization systems across Europe is to ensure Europeans have the correct information on vaccination and to increase confidence in and among healthcare professionals as infectious diseases make a resurgence across the Continent. The consequences of low uptakes of certain kinds of vaccination can be damaging to the health and economic welfare of vulnerable citizens across Europe, and by extension to their families and wider communities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">The EFN, in the representation of the general care nurse profession, is launching this social media campaign in cooperation with<\/span><span style=\"color: black;\"> CPME, PGEU, th<\/span><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">e\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: black;\">European Commission (DG Sante), <\/span><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">WHO Regional Office for Europe\u00a0and the\u00a0ECDC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">The EFN, CPME and PGEU are co-chairing the <a href=\"https:\/\/coalitionforvaccination.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Coalition for Vaccination<\/a>, an initiative coordinated by the\u00a0European Commission. This Coalition is tackling vaccination hesitancy among healthcare professionals, to ensure that they vaccinate themselves and that they recommend vaccination to their patients.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">The EFN&#8217;s Membership is active in the topic of vaccination, as it is reflected in the published\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/efn.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/EFN-Report-on-Vaccination-April-2018.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #4a6ee0;\">report<\/span><\/a>\u00a0containing best practices for nurses\u2019 competencies in prevention.
