Smart4Health is the European Project started in 2019 and coordinated by Uninova<\/a> in which the EFN has been a key partner<\/strong>. The main objective<\/strong> of this project was to promote personalised health solutions<\/strong> through the universal exchange of Electronic Health Records<\/strong> in order to allow citizens and healthcare providers to collaborate in an integrated and digital way with citizens, healthcare professionals and researchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Large amounts of valuable citizen\u2019s health data are generated and collected among several hospitals and healthcare providers across the EU and Europe. However, opportunities to reuse these data<\/strong> for research and better healthcare are often missed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In order to address the key priorities<\/a> indicated in 2017 by the European Commission, the consortium of Smart4Health EU project has been developed, tested and validated a platform prototype for the Smart4Health citizen-centred health record EU-EHR exchange. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The development of the Smart4Health platform<\/strong> is from the technological perspective the key product of the project. The Smart4Health consortium aimed to empower each individual<\/strong>, increase their digital health literacy<\/strong>, and accompany EU citizens<\/strong> on their way to explore and make the most beneficial use of each personal EHR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EFN actively participated in this project, which ended with 2 days of meetings in Madeira. In this final meeting, Pedro Ramos, Regional Secretary of Health of Madeira intervened saying: \u201cWe believe in digital, we believe in care\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is a key message for the entire healthcare sector and for nurses. Digital innovations and technologies can really facilitate the frontline activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this context, nurses can play a key role as the closest healthcare professionals to patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
