{"id":19813,"date":"2026-06-04T11:55:45","date_gmt":"2026-06-04T09:55:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/efn.eu\/?p=19813"},"modified":"2026-06-04T11:55:47","modified_gmt":"2026-06-04T09:55:47","slug":"the-ep-empl-sant-committee-endorsed-the-ini-report-on-the-eu-health-workforce-with-a-strong-majority","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/efn.eu\/?p=19813","title":{"rendered":"The EP EMPL-SANT Committee Endorsed the INI Report on the EU Health Workforce with a strong majority!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The European Parliament EMPL-SANT Committees have endorsed the Own-Initiative Report (INI) on \u201c<em>An EU health workforce crisis plan: sustainability of healthcare systems and employment and working conditions in the healthcare sector<\/em>.\u201d, developed by Co-Rapporteurs Ruggero Razza (SANT, ECR, Italy) and Loucas Fourlas (EMPL, EPP, Cyprus), with a strong majority of 85 votes in favours, 3 votes against, and 2 abstentions. &nbsp;This is a key result for the EFN, which has proactively lobbied for concrete political results from a nursing profession perspective for over 1.5 years. The file will now need to be voted in the European Parliament Plenary in Strasbourg in July 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Importantly, the INI Report strongly supports the legislative development and implementation of Safe Staffing Levels (SSL) and Advanced Practice Nursing (APN). Furthermore, it provides strong political backing for the full implementation and protection of the Directive 2013\/55\/EU, and for better Occupational Health and Safety legislation at EU Levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, it includes key recommendations on important topics such as tackling violence against healthcare professionals, protecting nurses from the exposure to hazardous substances, strengthening the role of nurses in preparedness, strengthening social dialogue and collective bargaining, reducing the reliance on international recruitment and for ensuring ethical recruitment, as well as for ensuring funding for the nursing workforce in the next European Multiannual Financial Framework, and for better, co-created digitalisation of healthcare systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">EFN appreciates the relentless support of the rapporteurs to the nursing profession to solve in an urgent and concrete way the shortages of nurses within the EU. We need concrete actions, supported by all political parties, to address the enormous shortage of nurses in the EU, and the INI report is doing so! EFN congratulates all the rapporteurs and shadow rapporteurs.
