{"id":7625,"date":"2016-02-11T17:06:05","date_gmt":"2016-02-11T16:06:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.efnweb.be\/?p=7625"},"modified":"2016-02-11T17:06:05","modified_gmt":"2016-02-11T16:06:05","slug":"the-eu-celebrates-the-european-112-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/efn.eu\/?p=7625","title":{"rendered":"The EU celebrates the European 112 Day!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since 2009, the <strong>European 112 Day<\/strong> is being celebrated on the 11<sup>th<\/sup> of February. This date was introduced as a way to raise awareness among the public on the common European emergency number \u2018112\u2019.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">More and more Europeans travel within the EU. Therefore, having a common emergency number for all the EU Member States is significant for public safety. Available free of charge, 24\/7, anywhere in the European Union, this 112 number is still largely unknown, with only 48% of the EU citizens recognising this number as the one to call the emergency services, including the police, emergency medical services and the fire brigade.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As such, both the European Emergency Number Association (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.eena.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EENA<\/a>) and the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/digital-agenda\/en\/news\/europes-emergency-number-112-known-half-europeans-ec-acts-inform-young-people\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Commission<\/a> are making efforts to promote the number and its proper use. The most recent example is the 112 awareness campaign of <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.airbnb.com\/putting-safety-first\">Airbnb <\/a>that, in partnership with EENA, updated their safety cards in Europe to include the 112 number and inform travellers about it.
