On the occasion of the XII European Patients’ Rights Day, the EFN is committed to support and advocate for strategies and policies that support patients and place patient rights at the centre of healthcare systems redesign, in order to maintain and improve high quality, safe and effective services.
Improving patients’ rights is a fundamental priority that concerns all nurses who, through regular sustained direct patient contact, appropriate support, and health coaching, can make a significant contribution to supporting patient empowerment and providing support to those needing care. These tasks are well acknowledged in the design of the nurse curricula, in compliance with Article 31 of Directive 2013/55/EU, in which patient empowerment and support to individuals needing care are specifically mentioned.
Therefore, the EFN calls for a greater involvement of nurses in the co-design of healthcare policies to ensure those respond to frontline needs and support them in further supporting and empowering patients!
