EFN Manifesto
Ahead of the upcoming European Parliament elections in June 2024, the EFN has developed a Manifesto highlighting its key political message on education, health workforce and quality & safety. The EFN members have been invited to fully use the Manifesto at national level to influence their candidate MEPs. With up to 6 million nurses in Europe, the EFN and its members are a significant voting force. They are, therefore, calling on MEPs to support the following priorities and use their influence to help: Invest in nursing education, Life-long Learning & Continuous Professional Development at European and national level; Ensure optimal wages, fair working conditions and health workforce capacity building; Take national and EU initiatives to stop Violence against Nurses.

Invest in Nursing to Save Lives!

Background

Every five years, EU citizens choose who represents them in the European Parliament. The next elections, the tenth one since the first direct elections in 1979, will take place between 6-9 June 2024.

By voting in the European elections, the EU citizens will get to choose the 720 members that will represent them in the European Parliament until 2029. This means that this elections there will be 15 members more than in the previous election, as approved by the European Council in view of the demographic changes in EU member states – Additional seats have been allocated to: Belgium (+1), Denmark (+1), Ireland (+1), Spain (+2), France (+2), Latvia (+1), Netherlands (+2), Austria (+1), Poland (+1), Slovenia (+1), Slovakia (+1), Finland (+1).

Following the elections, the European Parliament will vote to elect the new head of the European Commission and approve the full team of commissioners.

Have your say!

The European elections give EU citizens, including 6 million EU nurses, the chance to select who will represent them in the European Parliament and help decide what kind of Europe we have.
