Before the summer break, the European Parliament Employment Committee has discussed some very important topics for the nursing profession. The items debated by MEPs concerned key issues such as protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to carcinogens or mutagens at work, and employment and social policies in the EU.
It is widely acknowledged that healthcare professionals, and in particular nurses, are among the professionals most affected by risks related to exposure to dangerous substances at work, as often exposed to carcinogenic, mutagenic and reprotoxic hazardous drugs.
The need for action in these important fields is crucial for nurses, who expect a serious commitment from the EU institutions to implement the European Pillar of Social Rights principles to ensure that better and safer working conditions are put in place for 3 million nurses in the EU.
