During the launch of the Nursing Now Campaign, the World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH) has announced the publication of the report “Nursing and Midwifery; The Key to the Rapid and Cost-Effective Expansion of High-Quality Universal Health Coverage”.
The findings of the report are very important as they show that people involved in the survey are very positive towards an increase in nurse-led services. Namely, 80% of respondents felt that with the appropriate standards of education, training, skills, and experience, nurses and doctors are seen as equally valuable members of the healthcare team.
The results also suggest that there would be widespread public support for nurses making an even greater contribution to healthcare in the future.
The report, published today, has received special appreciation from Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General, World Health Organization (WHO), that in the foreword to the report said “Nurses and midwives are at the heart of progress toward Universal Health Coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals. They are not only essential for delivering health services; their experience and knowledge are also valuable assets in shaping health policy, and their voices deserve to be heard at the policy-making table”.
