The EFN is convinced that future ICT and EHR co-design only delivers ‘fit-for-purpose’ solutions if the technical requirement and the end-user requirements are aligned. Therefore, the EFN is a strong advocate for IT partners and nurses to meet and discuss what needs to be done to create EHR at EU level. Breaking down silos can only be done if partners break it down themselves. Although the dialogue is not easy, as the language used is very technical in these meetings, it is key both partners start talking to each other’s language.
In Liege, Belgium, InteropEHRate project’s technical partners (Andaman7, UPRC, UNITN, SILO, SIVECO, UBIT) met during two days to discuss the technical requirements needed for the project, together with the EFN. It is key for nurses to understand these technical requirements. “It is always nice to be in a position to talk several languages”, argued the EFN Secretary General Paul De Raeve. In fact, it creates a better internal market for free movements, that is what nurses learned when co-designing EU legislation (Directive 2013/55/Eu and Proportionality Directive). Breaking down silos is key to develop a sustainable EU.
The InteropEHRate project’s objective is to realise an open, standardized and unique European extended-EHR to preserve the European assets and professional ways of working, by addressing the current lack of standardization and security, defining a set of integrated protocols and conformance criteria for mobile apps, supporting secure and portable local storage and backup, released as open specifications.
