Cyber-security, big data and the Internet of Things (IoT) are topics that touch upon the digitalisation of healthcare, and hence, are of the interest of the nursing community. For that reason, the EFN is sharing its views in an event organised by the European Commission and the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME). This event is titled “Fostering the Adoption of Cyber-security, Big Data and LoT – Skills for SMEs” (a.k.a. small and medium-sized enterprises).
It brings together about 200 experts from industry, trade unions, education and training organisations, governments and SMEs across the EU. Participants, during a series of panel discussions, talked about how to address the importance of skills development to better support the digital transformation – this is a key topic for the nursing profession – and as such the EFN has published a roadmap to advance lifelong learning for nurses.
In addition to that, participants are discussing the urgency of increasing cyber-security in digitalisation. This conclusion is aligned with the ongoing developments that the two projects on Electronic Health Records the EFN is part of (InteropEHRate and Smart4Health).
Finally, stakeholders talk on how the education should be tailored to the need of end-users, overcoming existing barriers to develop the necessary skills to adopt new technologies. This requires a strengthened collaboration between all stakeholders – including both the educators and the industry.
