The Directorate General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE) of the European Commission together with the Ministry of Health of Luxembourg is organising on 22 and 23 November 2022 a High-level Conference on COVID-19 lessons learned and looking ahead to ensure a stronger EU Health Security Framework, that can be followed online.
Bringing together EU and public institutions, non-governmental organisations, international organisations and governmental representatives, the conference will cover many pertinent lessons learned during the COVID pandemic that helped build a stronger EU Health Security Framework. It will also present the regulations recently adopted by the Council, designed to complete the European Health Union, in the areas of prevention, preparedness, surveillance, risk assessment, early warning, and response, that should enter into force soon:
- the Regulation on Serious cross-border health threats – that aims at creating a more robust mandate for coordination at EU-level, updating reporting requirements as regards health system indicators and streamlining cooperation between EU countries, the European Commission and EU agencies.
- the Regulation on the extended mandate of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and
- the Emergency Framework Regulation to provide extra powers to the European Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA)
The EFN President, Elizabeth Adams, will chair the roundtable discussion on 23 November at 09.15 “Responding to COVID-19”, that will provide the views of nurses, physicians, patients and health professionals from long-term care facilities on this.
