European Antibiotic Awareness Day 2011

by efn efn

On 17 November 2011, at midday, the European Commission launched its Strategy on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). On this occasion, as well as to mark European Antibiotic Awareness Day, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) is organising a launch event at the Brussels Press Club. The event will follow the Commission’s midday briefing where Commissioner Dalli and Commissioner Geoghegan-Quinn will present the new AMR strategy.

The strategy, which comes ten years after the adoption of the 2001 Community Strategy against AMR, aims at addressing all sources of AMR and their potential impacts; reference will be made to public health, food safety, consumer safety, environment, animal health and welfare as well as non-therapeutic use of antimicrobial substances.

Speakers at the ECDC launch event will include Paola Testori Coggi, Director General of DG Sanco, Marc Sprenger, Director of ECDC, Robert-Jan Smits, Director General of DG Research and Innovation, as well as representatives of the on-going Polish Presidency and incoming Danish Presidency.
