The European Commission funded KEEPCARING project, of which EFN is a key partner, is aiming at supporting the resilience of the nursing workforce by focusing on reducing stress and preventing burnout among healthcare professionals in EU hospital settings. The project will do this by combining non-digital, digital, and AI-driven solutions to address individual, team, and organizational stressors. By co-creating innovative interventions, KEEPCARING aims to foster a healthier, more resilient healthcare workforce – ensuring better care for patients and more sustainable healthcare systems.
Among these interventions, Erasmus University Rotterdam is leading a Co-work design intervention, which is looking into Prosocial Job Crafting to support teams of nurses in the EU. The idea behind this intervention, is that of creating additional pressure for any one individual, the team collectively supports each other, ensuring that the workload remains manageable for everyone. By proactively stepping in to help each other, team members can reduce stress and prevent burnout, promoting a healthier work environment. To explore this, they will conduct a diary study among nurses, which is currently in the preparatory stages.
With regards to digital and AI-driven interventions, an example is the biobehavioural observational monitoring study led by the NOVA University, which will be conducted with the support of “Hexoskin” shirts, and it will be launched very soon. Another example is the co-created AI-driven Change Management Platform (CMP) which will be developed by NURO. Importantly, this platform is being co-created thanks to two co-design events that were organised by in hybrid and online formats by the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), based on user-cantered design methods, including the Persona-and-Scenario technique.
