The EFN has attended the second ICUData4EU Project General Assembly in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, hosted by the Cluj-Napoca Clinical Hospital for Infectious Diseases. It was a great opportunity for the EFN to meet with all the project partners, including the leads of the 8 Work Package (WP) which are working on the development of a confederated data sharing platform for European ICUs, in alignment with the EHDS, to strengthen EU and Europea Preparedness for the next healthcare crisis.
EFN, as the end-users representative, is working closely in WP3 – Needs Assessment and Requirements Gathering for the European ICU Data Space, lead by the Information Technology for Translational Medicine (ITTM) and WP8 – Validation, Pilot Testing and Dissemination, lead by the Aachen University Hospital (UKA).
In this regard, during the General Assembly the consortium discussed the testing of primary use cases for the ICUData4EU confederated data sharing platform, which is particularly important for the frontline deployment of the platform to improve the workflow of nurses and allied healthcare professionals. The EFN will continue to follow closely these developments in ICUDat4EU, ensuring that the needs and perspective of frontline nurses are always adequately taken into account.
Additionally, during the General Assembly there was a demonstration of the confederated data sharing platform, which will be powered by an AI-search engine based on the SNOMED CT language model, which includes the International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP), enabling the standardisation of data for frontline nursing and nursing research purposes.
The 2026 ICUData4EU General Assembly will take place in Crete, Greece, date to be confirmed.
