New Commissioner in charge of Consumer Protection portfolio as of 1st July 2013

by efn efn

Mr Neven Mimica, current Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Croatia, has been appointed as the 28th European Commission member, taking over the Consumer Protection portfolio. This means a big change in DG Health and Consumer Protection (DG Sanco), which will be split in two, as of 1st July. The Croatian Commissioner is expected to take up the ‘Tourism’ file, as the country has a well-developed tourism sector. Such a portfolio does not officially exist, although it falls under the Industry and Entrepreneurship portfolio held by the Italian Commissioner Antonio Tajani. The EFN warmly welcomes his nomination and look forward to his contribution to deliver successful outcomes in this important European Commission file. We wish him all success in this new post.
