The European Federation of Nurses Associations (EFN) is pleased to announce that four nursing political leaders, all women, have been elected to the EFN Executive Committee, for a two years mandate (2013-2015).
Meeting in Skopje (FYR Macedonia) for the 99th EFN General Assembly, held on 26-27 September 2013, the EFN members elected a new President. Ms Marianne Sipilä, from the Finnish Nurses Association, an active player in EFN for many years, was chose with an overwhelming majority, to succeed to Ms Unni Hembre, EFN President from 2010 to 2013.
“Health and social care is facing big changes in Europe and all over the world. Nurses are needed now more than ever to give their input to the development of European health care and nursing. Therefore, my priority will be to ensure that the EFN is a strong actor in developing European health care”, said Marianne Sipilä.
The EFN members also put all their trust and confidence in Ms Milka Vasileva (Bulgarian Association of Health Professionals in Nursing), elected as EFN Treasurer, and in Ms Elizabeth Adams (Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation) & Ms Roswitha Koch (Swiss Nurses Association) elected as members of the Executive Committee, also with an overwhelming majority.
The EFN is confident to continue developing and redesigning the nursing profession and making sure EU policies, Directives, are taking up the nurses’ views and experiences.
