The European Federation of Nurses Associations actively participated in “Your wish list for Europe” organised by the European Ombudsman, Ms Emily O’Reilly, with the presence of the President of the European Commission, Mr Barroso, and the President of the European Parliament, Mr Schulz.
Both presidents have addressed very frankly the lack of confidence that EU citizens currently have in the EU, mainly as a consequence of the financial crisis and the irresponsible use of public funds by some political leaders. Particularly Mr Schulz, running for becoming President of the European Commission, stressed the need to facilitate the involvement of the EU citizens in the EU elections and to further promote trust, transparency, mobility and better opportunities.
Being health a driver for involved citizens, active workforce, and more sustainable welfare systems, the EFN wishes major investments are made on health and on the largest profession of this sector, the nurses. The EU nurses wish MEPs to champion appropriately educated, supported and motivated nursing workforce in the right numbers to deliver person-centred care and promote health in the EU”
