EFN President, Marianne Sipila, met all nursing bodies of Cyprus, thus CYNMA and its Branches, Nursing and Midwifery Council, PASYDY General and Mental Health Nursing trade unions, to discuss issues concerning the future development of nursing, as well as the current developments in the Health care system in Cyprus.
The discussions reflect the following statements:
- There is a need to ensure the professional and occupational autonomy of Nursing and Midwifery within the context of the proposed Health Care Transformation in the clinical area and the Ministry of Health;
- There was a suggestion for a thorough study of the environment regarding production and financing the delivery of nursing and midwifery services that would allow the validity and viability of the working conditions of nurses with respect their educational background;
- Social partners are considered an integral part of the above entities thus social consent is a fundamental element in the promotion and adaptation of the Health care reforms;
- Safe staffing levels should be governed by clear legal framework in order to ensure both quality care delivery and patient safety.
